
Patrick Van Eecke
Patrick Van Eecke is partner at DLA Piper’s Brussels office. He is specialised in data protection focusing on a wide variety of European and international data protection issues, including those related to international data transfers, treatment of employee data, commercial communications, eCommerce, privacy issues in the context of new technologies such as RFID and PETs.
Patrick has been named Belgium's leading lawyer and is ranked one of the world's top 20 IT lawyers in the latest edition of Legal Media Group's "Guide to the World's Leading Technology, Media & Telecommunications Lawyers".
Patrick is also recommended by the Legal 500 and by the European Legal Experts as one of the top legal advisors in Brussels. Legal 500 (2009) claimed “Head of practice Patrick Van Eecke has a ‘deep knowledge of privacy legislation’ states one client, adding ‘he has provided us with precise, comprehensive and quality advice’.
Patrick’s practice is oriented towards diverse IT and telecom players. He advises telecommunication companies, internet service providers, software developers, governments and companies using IT and telecom facilities and services. He is intensively involved in diverse research and consulting projects for the European Commission and many national governments on legal aspects of information technologies and related matters.
Patrick also teaches IT law at the University of Antwerp in Belgium, and at Queen Mary University in London, United Kingdom.
He is the author of various legal articles and books on data protection related issues and is a regular speaker on national and international conferences.
