
Willem Debeuckelaere
President of the Belgian Commission for the Protection of Privacy
Willem Debeuckelaere is a law graduate of the University of Ghent, Belgium.
He worked as a lawyer from 1977 till 1995 and was head of the cabinet of the Belgian Minister of the Interior from 1995 till 1998.
He was then appointed judge at the Court of First Instance, and in 2002 he became counsellor at the Ghent Court of Appeal.
From 2004 till March 2007, he was Vice-President of the Belgian data protection authority (DPA), the Commission for the Protection of Privacy. In April 2007 he was designated President of the DPA, a position he still holds.
