Filip De Meyer

Researcher at the Medical Informatics & Statistics department of the Universiteit Gent

Filip De Meyer graduated as an electronics engineer and has worked for the Department of Medical Informatics and Statistics of the University Hospital of Ghent (BE) since 1990. He was involved in several European projects on data security, digital signatures and privacy issues in healthcare Information and Communication Technology.

Since 1998 he has focused on Privacy Enhancing Technologies. He was project leader of the EU-funded PRIDEH and PRIDEH-GEN projects on Privacy Enhancing Technology and consultant in the ACGT (Advancing Clinico-Genomic Clinical Trials on Cancer) and ASSIST (association studies on cervical cancer) projects.

Following his involvement in CEN TC251 (Health Information and Communications Technology Standardisation), he co-authored the ISO TC 25237 “Technical Specification on the use of Pseudonymisation in Healthcare”.

He is currently conducting PhD research focusing on privacy and quality aspects of the integration of clinical care and biomedical scientific research.
